On The Daily Beast, Jeffrey Hart, a speech-writer for Nixon and Reagan, endorsed Senator Obama and called him the "real conservative" in the race.
This definition rests on a distinction between philosophical conservatives, (the lost Edmund Burke wing of the party) and social conservatives (the Theocrats that dominate the party). In order to make his point, Hart discusses Roe and stem cell research, arguing that the real conservative position would examine the social consequences to such matters. Though tragic, these issues are important to society.
