Palin and Institutionalizing Creationism; or, A Paraphrased Transcript From "Meet the Press"

Brokaw: Palin argues that Creationism and Evolution should be taught side by side in the public schools. Do you agree with that?

Pawlenty: Why not expose children to both views, or even more views than that?

Brokaw: Do you think that in the scientific community, that Creationism and Evolution are given the same weight? Is it wise to given them equal tracking at a time when American public education is already falling more and more behind.

Pawlenty: Well, it's a local decision. Personally I believe in Creationism. It does seem that the scientific community doesn't think much of Creationism. But why not teach both theories side by side, if that's what they want to do at a local level?

Clearly, science is a local decision. Evolution in New York and California is not the same as evolution, er, Creation Science in Texas or Alaska.

But religion, on the other hand, that is the "true" universal.

Now, they are saying in the MTP Roundtable that, much will turn on which Palin Ethos winds up dominating the Discourse. Will it be the "Reformer," the "compelling personal story," &c?

Or will it be the Ethos of the Hardline Social Con who is unwilling to compromise.

They are saying that among Indys, this is a very bad year for Social Con Red Meat. Hmmmmm. Harrogate wonders if this is true. He fears that the Ohioans who did in Kerry will rise up for McCain/Palin in significant numbers.

So, you've been saying all along that Obama's Ground Game matters, and that will be the difference.

Fundies Ground Game against Obama's Ground Game.

With much. Perhaps even nuclear warfare, hanging in the balance.

Ground game and money matters. Issues cannot as identity politics will prevent any persuasion. We can only hope that Obama gets people to the polls.

There is a class of Indys out there for whom Issues and Persuasion still count. Obama will clean McCain's clock with these if he keeps doing what he did on Thursday, which was to synthesize his Earlier emphasis on Unity and Pragmatism with the power of the word, "Enough."

In Ohio and in Pennsylvania especially, let the word "Enough" become all the Rage.
