Show-Me State Bloodbath

Stem cell research ad-Jim Talent

The gloves are off in Missouri. Has any race gotten more attention this season than the one between Rethug Incumbent Jim Talent and Demo challenger Claire McCaskill?

This ad sure doesn't pull any punches.

Opinions?

This is my Senator. He kicks puppies and spits on the baby Jesus. Please vote against him.

"Maybe I'm You," the woman says.

What if she's right? And if she's me, then who am I?Maybe I'm not me? Whose life am I living?

What Harrogate finds sad is, there are plenty of things about Talent to attack in this extreme way, while at the same time being dead on correct. But those things the Demos will not touch because they are me-tooers when it comes to much of the worst of Rethugs. Hell, even this ad isn't funded by McCaskill or the DNC, but rather the United Fund.

Harrogate has followed this race as much as any, and does think Mrs. McCaskill is a more or less decent person who would do some good things in the Senate. But at the time of last night's writing it was already beginning to look like Talent is pulling away. Too bad.

Despite what's happening in the polls, I have faith that my home state will not keep Talent in office.

But then again, I never thought it would give its electoral votes to Bush in '04.

Well, to clarify: Harrogate was referencing polls that have them at a dead heat in the Bellweather State. The reason Harrogate denotes this as Talent "pulling away" is because McCaskill was ahead by 6 points only a week ago. Harrogate just can;t wrap his mind around McCaskill pulling out a squeaker, given the last two razor thin elections that went all GOP.

Harrogate's math says a Dem needs a big lead to pull it out. FOr what it's worth. Oh, how he'd love to be wrong, how he'd love to see not only Mizzou voters but also those in Montana and Virginia and Maryland and even Tennessee (yeah, right) get their heads out of their arses and do the right thing.

But then, if you had a wish in one hand and a pile of cow dung in the other, which would you have more of?
