Rhetoric and Music
A professor, Leon W. Couch III, examines the conncetion between rhetoric and music. It is heavy reading but the paper explores the ancient Roman style of organization in music.
A revised version of this paper may be found on the third data CD of "Playing Dieterich buxtehude's Music Works Rhetorically" published by the American Guild of Organists (AGO). Intended for musicians performing German Baroque music, it has two CDs of lectures with audio examples.
It may be purchased directly the AGO store: http://www.agohq.org/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=AOS&Product_Code=OM-31&Attributes=Yes&Quantity=1 . All proceeds go to the organization and support future practical scholarly/pedagogical projects.
