This is your life; or, The Tuesday Musical Tribute....

"You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake...." It is a mind-numbing kind of night. A night in which the most exciting thing in the world, an inside look into Harrogate's or Oxymoron's or Super D's or M's or Meg's (maybe not Roof's as I may not return and definitely not South Paw's as he is incapable of writing) inner thoughts, would not be enough to save me from myself.

It is Tuesday night. I have five papers left to grade and then an exam tomorrow and more grades to discover.... One grade at a time....

"I say deliver me from Swedish furniture." A few months ago, we went to Ikea. Megs still has not recovered; neither has Sweet Toddler J. I never liked the store in the first place....

Bonus song of the day: The Pixies, "Where is My Mind?"

Bonus Query: What is the worst act ever implemented out of boredom? I mean something with absolutely no value whatsoever but you did it any way because, well, because... because you were bored....and then you enjoyed it....Mine on the flip...

The Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, 1998. My friends and I sat on the couch, ordered Pizza, drank, and watch the opening weekend of the NFL. Needless to say, by the afternoon, we were pleasant.

Since it was early September, it was still very hot in out apartment. We set up a box fan to help cool us down. Slowly, the presence of the fan and a vast ocean of bottle caps from the day combined as we took turns throwing the bottle caps into the fan. The goal was to see who could throw the greatest amount of bottle caps into the fan without having the fan shoot the bottle cap out into the room.

On a side note: each person had a pile of bottle caps and we took turns throwing them in to the fan. And yes, if they did shoot out, we needed to duck. If you threw a bottle cap in and some caps shot out, those caps would be evenly divided. The goal was to get rid of your pile. I did win. However, in the end, I may have lost, especially since I had to admit this story now.

Side note two: that night, Rochester, NY experience a odd storm where the city faced hurricane force winds as well as heavy rain. The storm destroyed a lot of trees and knocked out power for over 70,000 residence. That night may not have been the best night to create a game that involved a lot of beer.

No appropriate story comes to mind right at this moment. THis may be one of those threads where we have to 'gravedig' the thread later, as the memories come.

But, thanks for this post solon. It was just the right thing for tonight. Great video, great writeup.

Well, I was up at 6:20 this morning so I can make it to campus to give an exam at 9:00 am. Given that, I don't have an inspirational story to add either. I will say that Wild Man, PW, and I visited Ikea this summer. It was scary, and I don't plan to return--EVER! As Oxymoron. We met him, Mrs. Oxy, and Baby Ox there. I think it scarred all of us.

Not an Ikea fan. Love the Pixies though.

Because I have been called out numerous times recently, I will emerge from beneath the pile of mediocre essays to contribute....

I guess this would be the Texas version of Solon's bottle-cap fun.

A case of beer, a Texas-sized industrial ceiling fan, and couches on all four compass directions. Empty a beer, crumple the can, then throw it into the speeding ceiling fan. The object: Have the can strike one of your buddies on the other couches. It was quite amazing how fast and hard those cans moved. Definitely left marks.

Paw is back!

When you said Texas version, I expected your story to begin thus:

"A case of beer, a Texas-sized industrial ceiling fan, and my wife's cat."

I don't know why.
