The peoples' hearts and minds

If the Simpsons have told us anything, it is that the world is a funny place. In a not so funny way. Well, maybe The Simpsons tell us that the world is not a funny place through funny means. Maybe, that the world is not a funny place and this clip is not even funny. Maybe, just maybe, you should watch the clip.

That's a heavy-hitting clip. It left Harrogate sad, and thirsty. Time for a drink.

Mr. P-duck--an avid Simpsons fan--left the room after watching this episode on Sunday. In contrast, I laughed, and what followed was a somewhat heated conversation about humor.

While satire and humor have long been used to address politics and war, this clip raises the question of timing. Would this clip be as funny if we weren't still at war? Does it hit too close to home for Mr. P-Duck because he served in OIF? Or because the issues are so relevant? Is it funny to me only because I have not been "over there"?
