Why you aren't cool enough. Yes, you. -or- "It's so strange, eye'm more comfortable around U when eye'm naked"

Whether it is the Santa-riding, the fact that he out-James-Browns James Brown, the entire deconstruction of "singing" and "clapping," or the utter chaos he leaves in his wake-- this is the sign you've been waiting for that you should try harder.

Yes, you.

Those two performances were just weird.

They pretty much summarize my impressions of the three artists involved.

-James has his band vamp endlessly, where he is truly an optional element. Skilled but workmanlike-- the show is about the audience dancing more than information on his father's new valise.
-MJ performs his current signature moves, gives a glossy, skilled-but-passionless version of his current signature hit's chorus
-Prince updates the "Milton Bearle's about to play his violin" bit by never actually, technically committing to anything. It never makes any sense and the crowd adores it.

The difference between his performance and Michael Jackson proves the difference between minimalism and just bare minimum.
